Aluminium first, near the water

25mm slats give the crisp, most popular look; 50mm reads bolder with fewer lines. Powder-coated aluminium is the moisture and humidity champion — kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, and any room near a Wilderness or Sedgefield lagoon, where the corridor's rain-in-every-month pattern keeps relative humidity high year-round. It handles the salt air at Mossel Bay's bay front too, with an occasional rinse-wipe near the water doing the rest.

Timber, where the room allows it

50mm basswood or bamboo slats suit George's drier, better-ventilated older-town interiors, and any room set well back from the lagoons and forest edge. Keep timber out of steamy bathrooms anywhere on the corridor — that's an aluminium room, no exceptions.

The adjustability argument

A roller is open or closed by degrees; a venetian steers light direction — tilt up for glare-free daylight off open water, tilt down for privacy from a neighbouring deck, close flat for full dark. Rooms with real hour-by-hour light swings, like a lagoon-facing lounge as the morning mist lifts, get genuine daily use out of that control.
